Startup Africa Program is a quarterly hybrid accelerator that onboards a select cohort of African startups onto AWS AI cloud infrastructure — with credits, architecture support, and hands-on mentorship.
Applications are open. Spots are limited. No cost to apply.
Most startups on the continent know they need cloud infrastructure. What they don't always have is the technical guidance, the architecture support, or the credits to get started properly.
Startup Africa Program was created to close that gap. Each cohort runs for one quarter — hybrid format, physical and online — and takes a select cohort of startups through structured AWS onboarding, hands-on workshops, and one-on-one technical mentorship.
By the end, you're not just on AWS. You're building the right way on AWS.
Building on AWS isn't just about hosting your product somewhere. It's about having credits to move fast without burning your runway, architects who can design your infrastructure properly from the start, and mentors who have actually done this before.
Without that combination, most startups either overbuild, underbuild, or spend money in the wrong places.
Startup Africa Program gives you all three. And for startups that want to go further — building AI into your product on top of a solid AWS foundation puts you in a category most of your competitors haven't reached yet.
"Without the right combination of credits, architects, and mentors — most startups either overbuild, underbuild, or spend money in the wrong places."
Up to $50K in AWS credits means you ship faster without burning capital.
AWS-certified engineers design your infrastructure correctly from the start — not after it breaks.
Direct access to experts who have built and deployed real solutions on AWS across Africa.
Hands-on onboarding with Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker — building AI-native products from Day 1.
Get set up on AWS with credits to run your infrastructure, experiment freely, and build without the cost pressure.
Work with AWS-certified engineers to design the right architecture for your product — not a generic template.
Hands-on sessions with AWS AI services including Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker. Build AI into your product from Day 1.
Learn how to run lean on AWS — the right instance types, the right services, and how to scale without burning your runway.
Whether you're moving from another provider or starting from scratch, we guide the entire infrastructure journey.
Direct access to technical mentors who have built and deployed real solutions on AWS across Africa and beyond.
Investment-minded donor funders join the program to observe, engage with founders, and explore promising startups — with reserved time for them to ask business questions and connect directly.
Startup Africa Program is a quarterly hybrid accelerator event co-hosted by SoftGEM (an Advanced AWS Partner) and AZIF. Each edition brings together 200 African startups for structured cloud onboarding, technical mentorship, and AWS infrastructure enablement.
The program runs 4 times a year (quarterly), accepting 200 startups per edition — supporting up to 800 startups annually.
The program targets African startups at various stages — including incubator-stage startups building foundational architecture, accelerator-stage startups moving from MVP to production, funded startups actively scaling, and VC-backed startups with large compute and data needs.
Accepted startups get access to AWS Architecture Sessions, Infrastructure Scaling Strategies, AWS Credits Onboarding, Hands-on Technical Workshops, and Mentorship with AWS Experts.
It's hybrid — combining in-person and online participation, with a pan-African geographic scope so startups from across the continent can take part.
The program targets $5K in Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) per startup from cloud usage, with a collective monthly cloud consumption potential of $1M per cohort.
SoftGEM holds AWS Generative AI Competency and AWS Financial Services Competency, making them qualified to deliver AI/ML and cloud architecture training. AZIF provides secure, efficient and scalable infrastructure management cloud services and cyber security solutions; and supports startup community engagement across Africa.
The program is designed to onboard African startups onto AWS from Day 1 — exposing them to enterprise-grade AI services like Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker — positioning AWS as the default cloud platform for the next generation of African builders.
The activation pipeline moves startups from AWS Credits Onboarding → Architecture Workshop & Planning → Production Infrastructure Deployment → becoming long-term AWS cloud customers.
By directly exposing 800+ African startups annually to AWS AI services, the program accelerates AI adoption, standardizes cloud architecture, and builds a long-term pipeline of high-growth cloud customers across Africa.
SoftGEM is an AWS Advanced Tier Partner with two AWS competencies — Generative AI and Financial Services. That means AWS has independently validated that we have the technical depth to design, build, and deploy complex cloud and AI solutions. When we say we'll help you build on AWS properly, that's not marketing — it's a credential.
AZIF (Azif Tech Solution) is a Select Tier partner, working through development partners who already have access to African startups. This means we’re not simply connecting to startups directly — we’re teaming with trusted partners who bring demonstrated market access across the continent.
